Rock Star...or not.

Well, we sat on the bleachers with all the other parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends of the Discovery School preschool and pre-k classes. It was a full house. I can't imagine where they stuff everyone for the main school concert. I was nervous as we sat there waiting for the parade of 3-5 year olds to come prancing into the gym. I was nervous for Ben. I just didn't know how he'd react to this room so full of on-lookers, an audience full of unfamiliar faces. I was afraid he might cry, scream, yell for mommy...and what would I do? I was stuck near the top of the bleachers. Could I do flying leaps to his rescue? Should I? Probably not, he'd make it through, right?

Finally, the moment arrived. The pre-k classes first, positioned to sit on the floor, while all their parents frantically waved in hopes their little one would see them. Then in came the preschoolers, and there was our boy. They were guided up on stage and Ben somehow shuffled himself to be last up. He looked a little bewildered by the crowd, but not scared...and not crying! Whew.

Mrs. Anthony took her spot in front of the stage and started them in on the first song. The kids at the far end of the stage were singing their hearts out. A few of the kids in the middle were busy shoving each other. And Ben, well Ben was busy looking around. His lips weren't even pretending to make out the words to the songs. He'd wiggle around a little after he saw the other kids do whatever hand motions they were supposed to make. Then they were handed antler headbands. He couldn't get his on or they were too tight, so he decided to have an antler battle with the boy next to him. For the last song, he was front and center between two other boys as they all sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"...but he found a hangnail.

At least he didn't cry!

Bloggers R' Us

So what the heck, why not? Everyone else is doing it. I'll give it a shot. I haven't managed to document the fun facts and milestones of the kids' lives in any other form, so maybe this will do it.

Tonight is Ben's first concert. The preschoolers will be singing their hearts out tonight. There will be the other preschool classes there too, so I'm not sure how it's all going to play out. Needless to say I'm curious to see how Ben will do up on stage in front of all the parents and grandparents. I've asked him what songs he's going to be singing but he tells me he doesn't know. Since he doesn't seem to really participate in most of the other songs they sing regularly at school, I have my doubts that he'll be into singing tonight...but who knows. After all, who'd have thought this boy would've ever walked through a crowded room, out on to a dance floor and dance with his cousin at a wedding reception! Not me!

And what's going on with Sarah? Hmm...yesterday she decided to brush her teeth with Daddy's toothbrush while I was changing my clothes. Minty fresh baby! She's been cranky lately. I think she's cutting teeth.
